Getting Ready

santa773

I am sure there are more suggestions on getting ready but here are a few basic preparations for Christmas Performers.

Santa and Mrs. Claus performers have a unique role that requires lots of preparation to create the magic of Christmas. Here’s a list of items and considerations for getting ready for the season:

1. Costume and Wardrobe

  • Santa Suit / Mrs. Claus Dress: Ensure it's in good condition, clean, and well-fitted.

  • Accessories: Belt, boots, gloves, suspenders, and a large Santa buckle.

  • Hats and Hair: Santa hat, Mrs. Claus bonnet or headpiece, and possibly wigs and beard (real-bearded Santas should groom accordingly).

  • Eyewear: Classic round "Santa" glasses or wire-frame spectacles.

  • Additional Outfits: Consider a second costume for long or multiple-day events.

2. Makeup and Grooming Supplies

  • Beard Care (for real-bearded Santas): Products like beard balm, shampoo, conditioner, and white dye if needed.

  • White Gloves and Sanitizing Wipes: For keeping clean between meeting children.

  • Light Makeup: To achieve a rosy-cheeked look for both Santa and Mrs. Claus.

3. Props and Accessories

  • Sack or Bag: Ideally a red or themed sack for holding small gifts or props.

  • Candy Canes or Small Treats: Check with event hosts about handing out candy.

  • Bells: Small bells or jingle bells for creating festive sounds.

  • Naughty and Nice List: A prop scroll or list for added realism.

  • Storybooks: Classic Christmas stories for storytelling sessions.

  • Magic Key: For homes without chimneys; adds a bit of magic for kids.

4. Practical Supplies

  • Portable Seat Cushion: For comfort during long hours of sitting.

  • Hand Warmers or Cooling Packs: Depending on the climate or indoor heating.

  • Water and Snacks: For breaks in between sessions to stay energized.

  • Emergency Sewing Kit: In case of costume malfunctions.

  • Febreze Clothing Odor Eliminator, Crisp Clean Scent

  • Wet Wipes

  • Hair Brush and Beard Brush

  • Hand Held Mirror

5. Photography and Social Media

  • Backdrop: For photos, if it’s an independent event.

  • Lighting: Portable lighting can be helpful for dimly lit spaces.

  • Social Media Pages: Set up or update pages with photos, booking information, and event dates.

6. Preparation and Training

  • Character Practice: Refine your “ho-ho-ho” laugh, Santa voice, or Mrs. Claus’s comforting tone.

  • Child-Friendly Responses: Prepare answers for questions like, “How do reindeer fly?” or “How do you visit every house?”

  • COVID Safety Supplies: Masks, sanitizers, or face shields, if requested or needed for health precautions.

7. Health and Fitness

  • Stamina Preparation: Practice sitting for long hours and lifting children if it’s part of the event.

  • Voice Care: Speaking for hours can strain vocal cords, so vocal warm-ups and hydration are key.

8. Additional Touches for the Role

  • Reindeer Bells Sound Effect App: Great for adding a surprise arrival sound.

  • Magic Dust: Harmless, biodegradable glitter for creating a bit of “Santa’s magic.”

  • Christmas Smells: Use cinnamon, pine, or peppermint essential oils to enhance the magical experience.

  • Sash: A sash can bake all the difference in looking sharp.

Preparing all these items and practices can ensure a smooth and magical Christmas season for both the performer and the audience!
