Grandma Simple Cookie Press Butter Cookies

Grandma's simple butter cookies recipe can be used in a cookie press, made as a drop cookie, or shaped into a roll and sliced. Make sure to chill it thoroughly so it keeps its shape while baking.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Beat butter and sugar together in a large bowl with a mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, then stir in the vanilla. Combine flour and salt in a separate bowl; add to butter mixture and mix to form a dough. Cover dough with plastic wrap and chill for at least one hour. Separate and color green, red or other food colors if so desired. It's fun to mix and make wreaths.

  2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Chill two cookie sheets.

  3. Transfer chilled dough to a cookie press; press out onto chilled cookie sheets.

  4. Bake in the preheated oven until lightly golden at the edges, about 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool.

  5. Makes approximately 3 dozen

Decorate

Add 2 tablespoons of milk and slowly add powder sugar while stirring. Mix until you get a honey like consistency. Dip the cooled cookie into the icing and then dip into sprinkles of different designs.
